A skinny teenager with confidence issues |
I was a typical 90’s teenager, enjoying most sports, staying active and spending a large part of my early years on a bike, rock climbing or on various sports fields. I played for most of the school sports teams and was especially focused on football and rugby.
Then, when I was 13 years old, my confidence took a sudden and drastic dive. Something triggered intense social anxiety, affecting my health, both emotional and physical. This even caused me to take time off from school as I found classrooms very difficult and couldn’t ride on the school bus for over a year. I was lucky enough to work with a very good therapist during this time and, through him, I learnt the importance of positive thinking and how to regain control of your thoughts to influence the way you feel. This experience means that I understand my clients’ body confidence issues far more than your average trainer and have learnt powerful ways to achieve positive transformation. My own journey continued with a newly invigorated passion for rugby but my slim physique made it hard to compete; I knew I had to make changes if I was to pursue the sport I love. I had to put the work in to increase my size and strength. |
Training with my idol |
Enter the gym... and years of hard training, 2-3 times a week. From the age of 15 I started training with my dad and, as my strength and muscles grew so did my confidence. The improvements were clear to all and I could now hold my own on the rugby pitch, putting in great performances that I could be proud of every time.
I began to really enjoy the invigorating feeling you got from a hard training session and by 18 I had a body I felt confident in and of which I was proud. Everything seemed to be coming together; the stronger and fitter I felt, the more clearly I could think and the more confidence I had in every aspect of life. |
Serious shoulder & neck problems |
I continued to train hard but, at the age of 22, I started experiencing serious shoulder and neck problems. I realised that I had done this to myself through a combination of rugby and ill-informed weight-training choices and by not allowing myself proper recovery time. Physical training still gave me a feeling of strength and confidence, though, so it was time to make some serious changes.
I decided to strip myself down, learn as much as possible about training, and build myself back-up into a better equipped athlete with a much stronger, more resilient physique. Since then I’ve spent years researching, experimenting and redesigning training programs so that others can safely transform the way they look and feel in the shortest time possible. |
The journey continues.... |
Over the past years I've been blessed to work with so many teams, sports, athletes and people. Including:
